Maria Safronova Wahlström

Maria Safronova Wahlström (b.1989) is an artist, based in Gothenburg. She received her MFA in Free Art at Valand Academy and works with sculpture, installation and graphics with a focus on our collective behaviour and the language practice we use to signal our social belonging. In her work, she tries to reflect on our collective identity; social myths; ideological branding and moralism. In all her projects, she focuses on the opposition between conceptual and visual form, contemporary and historical references. She uses stone, plastic, metal, wood and "found objects", which with their respective qualities, history and provenance are brought into dialogue with techniques of engraving, sculpting, casting, UV and screen printing.
